How can I achieve a spiritual experience through meditation?

I’m trying not to resort to drugs here. I’ve been a little mixed up lately to say the least and I feel like I need to be more connected with myself and my surroundings. I want something more than just “clearing my mind” and concentrating. I want an experience.

Experiential Spirituality and Contemporary Gnosis

spiritual
Many of us into metaphysics are frequently called upon by our “non-New Age” friends and acquaintances to explain ourselves and our metaphysical orientation to them. “What is metaphysics” “What is the ‘New Age?’” “What do you believe in?” “What makes your spirituality different?”

As those of us hard-core metaphysical types know, you can’t really say that there is any one set of beliefs that all “New Agers” are into. (As a matter of fact, the term “New Age” or “New Ager” is somewhat distasteful to many into metaphysics.) The New Age “movement” is a widely diversified conglomerate of subsets of ideas and explorations – so truly diversified that one could hardly ascribe the term “movement” to it, as this term connotes a cohesive, unified organization. One person into crystals and spirit guides, for example, may not be into UFO abduction phenomena. And those into paganism or magick may not necessarily break bread together well with those into angels or Christed energy.

So, what is it that links those of us into metaphysics and the New Age together? What are the common threads?

First of all, let’s look at the terms themselves, so that we may gain some insight into what we are identifying ourselves with.

“Metaphysics” is a term derived from the Greek: “meta” is a prefix meaning beyond or greater than and “physics” refers to that which is physical (or at least what we as a culture understand at the present time to be our physical reality). Thus, we can thank Greek for our term metaphysics – the realm of that which transcends physical reality.

The term “New Age,” on the other hand, does not have such a lengthy history or tradition. Ostensibly coined during the 60’s (1960’s, not the 19th or any other century prior to this one), the term “New Age” referred to the new astrological age we Earthlings were on the cusp of entering: the Age of Aquarius. (We had been in the Age of Pisces, we were told, for about 2000 years.)

On the face of it, it might appear that metaphysics and the New Age might not have anything intrinsically in common. However, one common link would appear to be that of spirituality. For example, little would seem to light up the eyes of those into metaphysics more than a discussion of those things spiritual. What transcends our so-called physical reality more than spirit?

With regard to the New Age, one hallmark of the transition from the Piscean to the Aquarian Age is the anticipated shift in consciousness, whether it is defined as a vibrational frequency shift precipitated by our approach to and entrance into the Photon Belt or is defined as an awakening and concurrent “raising of awareness” brought about by astrological influences and energies. Consciousness is also the stuff that dreams – and matters spiritual – are made of.

Thus, one link between metaphysics and the New Age “movement” would appear to be spirituality and consciousness – those topics deemed insubstantial and ephemeral, at least to the minds of those more pragmatic, empirical, and skeptical among us.

The above may represent somewhat of an oversimplification, but we may be hard-pressed to find a New Ager or someone into metaphysics who wasn’t basically pursuing some facet of spirituality, consciousness, or energy (a basic building block of reality and that which may be affected by consciousness and spirituality).

And this emphasis on spirituality and consciousness reflects an acknowledgment that we are, in essence, spiritual beings – and beings of pure energy, as consciousness is a form of energy – even though we are “in the body.” As Wayne Dyer says, “We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” Or, as Deepak Chopra says, our bodies are contained within our consciousness, not our consciousness contained within our bodies.

Many people have attempted to compare traditional religion and metaphysics, often pitting one against the other, as if the two of them were mutually exclusive or antithetical. Interestingly, however, religion based on theism is, by definition, a part of metaphysics, as any concept of a deity in traditional Western religion is outside the purview of our three-dimensional reality.

Which leads us to another interesting hallmark of contemporary metaphysics and the “New Age:” the spirituality is experiential.

And some of the causative factors involved with this experiencing of spirituality are somewhat understandable.

Many have theorized that the current interest in spirituality and metaphysics may in part be viewed as a reaction against the Age of Reason and the perceived pursuant overemphasis on the strictly material and empirical – that there is a longing for the transcendently spiritual, instead of feeling bogged down in a strict immersion in the physical. I. e., after a couple of centuries of emphasis on the empirically provable and concrete, there is a longing

for the spiritual as an antidote.

Just as the Age of Reason spawned a golden age for science and intellect, Western religions became more oriented toward beliefs and religious practices that grew out of and drew upon the left brain – i. e., in religious beliefs and practices, we stayed in our heads.

At the same time, Western religions have traditionally encouraged adherents to cede control to the church and its authority, rather than encouraging believers to take individual responsibility for their own spirituality. This approach worked for centuries until the advent of more public education and the resultant higher education of the populace. Education leads to empowerment.

Small wonder, then, that New Agers and those into metaphysics want to experience their spirituality, so that they may feel it, rather than simply think it, and that they want to have some control over their practice or manifestation of it, rather than strictly going through an external intermediary. This shift to a feeling of control over one’s expression of spirituality also reflects the trend towards personal responsibility, as well as personal empowerment.

Experiential spirituality may be expressed in various ways: some learn to meditate to tap into the divine; some are sensitized to the divine in nature and animals; some become healers or receive healing work; some seek to tap into the divine and receive guidance; etc. The list goes on and on….

Experiential spirituality shifts spirituality from something “out there,” impersonal, and external, to an internalization of the divine. Aside from this making more people mystics because they transcend the physical in their spiritual explorations, it also represents a democritization of the spiritual, whereby we take control of our spirituality, get out of being exclusively in our heads and move into our hearts (and hopefully then move towards linking our hearts and our minds), and take personal responsibility for understanding our personal beliefs and acting accordingly. (Another interesting reflection of the trend in our world toward democracy….)

It is through experiential spirituality that we truly come to know what we believe and what we resonate with. It is a knowing akin to gnosis, where what we experience becomes a knowing that is a true knowing – because we’ve been there. Which is quite different from believing in ism’s , creeds, and tenets we’ve been told by external agents or authorities are true, but that we haven’t truly experienced.

So, “what is metaphysics?” “What are you into?” The next time someone asks us where we’re coming from with our “metaphysical stuff,” maybe the notion of experiential spirituality and real gnosis may be some grist for our mill in grinding out our answer.

5 Paths to Spiritual Growth

spiritual
uddenly discover the innate calling for greatness in our lives, it’s important to follow through on our higher voice of wisdom. In most instances, our life purpose is being presented to us and that means we must follow our gut feelings to achieve the spiritual growth that is necessary for our passage into higher levels of awareness, acceptance, and inner peace. This is especially true for those of us who have become so caught up with the daily balancing act of juggle family, work, home, and other social obligations.

Though all of us enter this world with no preconceptions or prejudgments, our physical and mental beings become bombarded by external and environmental conditioning. While much of our upbringing and belief systems are constructively shaped by our families, teachers, and society in general, we sometimes become too consumed and inhibited by these traditional values and roles. In order to create an environment for positive spiritual development, we must nurture our higher consciousness by deprogramming most of what we’ve been mentally taught. That doesn’t mean we must stray away from moral values and ethics, but it means that we must totally absolve our emotional limitations that lead to negativity and mental barriers.

To achieve spiritual growth, one must begin to think and truly feel with an absolutely uninhibited mind and spirit. Within the core of our being, there is a wild mustang, a free spirit wanting to desperately break free from the mental fences we’ve built around ourselves; it’s in a way, the safety net that our mind has created for us to shelter us from harmful situations. However, that wild mustang, free spirit is your authentic self; and whether you choose to follow it or not, your authentic self wants to be released from your mental and emotional grips…and it will work fervently towards that end whether you want it to or not. This is your soul’s way of making you stop dead in your tracks and causing you to spring into action. Why? The primary reason your soul speaks to you is to give you the appropriate clues to achieve and maintain balance in all aspects of your life — mind, body, and spirit. It truly wants you to grow spiritually so you are readied to receive the blessings that the Universal flow of energy wants you to have, that is, living in complete balance.

To help you understand more fully, I am sharing with you the following five important paths to spiritual growth. When you become aware of the paths that we often follow, you are better prepared to walk them with clarity and positive intent.

* Spiritual growth during hardship. In turbulent times in our lives, we often find that we must turn to a Higher Source of wisdom for comfort, guidance, and reason. While we may not always like the feeling of distress, it is in these times that we attain some of the highest levels of spiritual growth. It is also in these times, that we become closer to God, our Creator. This will enable us to express a deep and profound connection with our Source and a sense of oneness with the world around us.

* Spiritual growth in relationships. When we enter into a marriage, partnership, or experience the joy of a new addition to the family — we often discover the spiritual element of life here as well. Feelings of deep love and admiration fill our hearts and souls with an overflowing abundance. And as we all know, love is a deeply spiritual emotion that can only flourish and grow. When we willingly share our love and compassion with others, we actually strengthen our own resources.

* Spiritual growth in work. In work? Really? Yes, when we put 110 percent into our work efforts, we may not always be recognized for our productivity; but we know in our hearts that we have accomplished something, and we have succeeded in doing our part toward creating a finished product or beneficial outcome — and that makes all the difference in how we perceive life. What we give out we get back 110 percent.

* Spiritual growth during travel. Have you ever taken time to observe the world around you? Whether you’ve seen the marvels of Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, the grand strand, or the rolling hills of Appalachia, you’ve touched the face of God. Spirituality is everywhere you look if only you seek it. I look in awe at the beauty of nature all around me and how it never fails to bring a sense of great joy and inner peace into my heart.

* Spiritual growth in death. As harsh as this may seem, death is the final passage to the Highest Realm of peace. When we experience the passing of a loved one, we go through several stages of grief and the mourning process. When we have reached the final stage of acceptance, it is then that we have grown spiritually. We have learned that while we may not always be able to physically see our loved ones, they will always reside in our hearts and memories forever. Spiritual growth comes when we understand that this eternal flame of love can never be extinguished.

As the tides of the many seasons come and go, we learn that from spiritual growth, comes a new dawning of a deep and spiritual recognition and awareness of life, love, and sense of purpose. Remember, the wild mustang, the free spirit in you — your authentic self, is ready to be released from your everyday confines. All you must do is ask for spiritual guidance and the Universal flow of energy will give you the soul power and tools to discover how you can truly enjoy what your life destiny is and will be.

Until we speak again, I am

How can you tell if someone is at a high spiritual consciousness level?

spiritual
Hi I’m Chucky. Wanna play? asked:

Not religious. We can all say that we love Jesus.

I mean soul growth.

How to Measure Spiritual Growth

spiritual
‘Spiritual level’ denotes a person’s spiritual maturity or spiritual capacity. It acts as a scale to define spiritual growth and gives perspective on where we are in our spiritual journey. The higher one’s spiritual level, the greater is the amount of God principle manifest in the individual.

Let us see the importance of spiritual level. If we were to say that someone is at 100% spiritual level, it would mean that this person is one with God, whereas 1% would refer to the spiritual level of an inanimate object. The majority of people in the current era, which is Kaliyuga, also known as the Era of Strife, fall in the 20% spiritual level category. According to the science of Spirituality, a person who is above the 70% spiritual level is known as a Saint. Just as we have people who are at the top of their fields in the material world, so also, in Spirituality, the Saints who live on Earth are the authorities. They are not just scholars, but practitioners of the science of Spirituality in day-to-day life and are God-realised souls. Spiritual level cannot be measured by any modern scientific equipment, nor can it be ascertained intellectually by any person.

Spiritual level is defined by a number of contributing factors. In the following points we have discussed some of the more important parameters that contribute to a person’s spiritual level and how they vary with spiritual growth.

1. One of the important parameters of the spiritual level of a person is the amount of ego or darkness around the Soul that has been removed and how much he identifies himself, with the Soul within. By darkness around the Soul or ego, we mean the tendency of man to perceive himself only as his five senses, mind and intellect.

2. A clear sign of a higher spiritual level than the average person is a reduced attention to one’s own happiness. Paradoxically even though we attend less to our happiness as we grow spiritually, one of the benefits of growing spiritually is that we get access to greater amounts of happiness in our lives.

3. As our spiritual level increases, our capacity to do spiritual practice both qualitatively and quantitatively increases. Our capacity to do more spiritual practice is like growing ‘spiritual muscles’. The more we stretch ourselves to do spiritual practice, the more we grow our ‘spiritual muscles’.

4. As one grows spiritually, one achieves a more balanced state of mind and no longer does one oscillate between highs and lows due to events around us.

5. Spiritual emotion towards God is experiencing an intense awareness of the existence of God in everything that is feeling God’s presence while carrying out day-to-day life activities and experiencing life based on this awareness. As one’s spiritual emotion increases one is more and more able to experience God’s hand in every aspect of life and hence is able to surrender more to God. A person at the 20% spiritual level may be full of himself and his intellectual skills after sealing a big and prestigious deal. A person at a 50% spiritual level in similar circumstances will be overwhelmed with spiritual emotion and full of gratitude to God for His kindness in gracing him with the deal.

The spiritual level that we are at is a key function in how we live our life and how we are impacted by life’s situations and destiny. We are all born at a certain spiritual level. This is based on the spiritual level achieved in the previous life time. When one does spiritual practice and grows to the 50% spiritual level, then in the next lifetime he will be born at the 50% spiritual level. This is unlike worldly knowledge where we have to start all over again once we are born.

The safest way to ensure our rapid spiritual growth in this birth is to undertake spiritual practice according to the 5 basic principles of Spirituality.
